Knockety builds solid wood front doors and entry doors to order in Houston, Texas, in two species: mahogany and knotty alder. Choose the style, size, glass and finish, and we ship your door free anywhere in the continental U.S.

Solid wood entry doors, built to order

Custom wood doors are built to order by our team in Houston. The slab is laid up, cut to size and machined for bore holes, then finished, glazed and, if you choose, prehung in its frame. Custom-built doors take about 5 weeks: 4 weeks to build in Houston, then about 1 week in delivery. Quick Ship doors, hardware and samples arrive in about 1 week.

Mahogany or knotty alder

Most of our wood doors are solid mahogany; three styles are knotty alder, and those say so in their names. Natural wood varies in grain and color, so the photos show the style rather than your exact door. To see the grain and color in your own light, order a wood finish sample.

Shop wood front doors by style

Browse craftsman wood doors with flat panels and divided glass, contemporary wood doors with flush-glazed glass and no raised moldings, divided lite wood doors that bring in plenty of natural light, solid wood doors with no glass, and wrought iron wood doors with wrought iron grilles. Sizes, glass and finishes

  • Sizes: most doors 32 or 36 inches wide, 80 inches (6'8") or 96 inches (8') tall; the Knotty Alder Solid Square 2 Panel and Solid 6 Panel Mahogany also come 42 inches wide. Each door page lists its sizes.
  • Swing: left- or right-hand, in-swing or out-swing, as seen from outside.
  • Glass: clear, water, rain or Flemish on most styles, and reeds or cloud on some, included at no extra cost. Glass doors use double-pane glass. See wood front doors with glass.
  • Finish: unfinished, or a factory finish ($600) in stains such as Canyon Brown, Burnt Umber, Cinnamon Red, Sweet Honey, Willow Gray and White Wash (Traditional or Antique), or colors such as Tricorn Black and Arcade White.
  • Slab or prehung: most buyers need prehung, which arrives hung in its frame with jamb, sill, hinges and weatherstripping. A slab is the door alone.

Wood front door prices

As of October 2026, wood doors start at $1,274 for a 32 x 80 inch slab with no finish. Prehanging, a factory finish and other options add to that, and each door page shows the full price as you configure it. Glass is included and delivery is free. Want one ready sooner? Quick Ship mahogany doors arrive in about 1 week.

Delivery and installation

Delivery is free anywhere in the continental U.S., curbside by freight truck with a liftgate; you move the door from the curb to your entry. Houston customers get free installation. Doors usually weigh 100 pounds or more, so plan for two people.

Wood or fiberglass?

Choose wood for real solid mahogany or knotty alder. Wood doors are not impact rated and carry a 1-year limited warranty. If you want the wood look with a longer warranty, see our fiberglass front doors that look like wood.

Wood front door questions

How much does a wood front door cost at Knockety?

As of October 2026, wood doors start at $1,274 (Multi Lite SDL Mahogany Door, 32 x 80 inch slab, unfinished) and knotty alder doors at $1,300. A factory finish adds $600 and prehanging adds to the price; glass and delivery in the continental U.S. are included. Each door page shows the full price as you configure it. More in our guide to what a custom front door costs.

Should I order a slab or a prehung wood door?

Most buyers should order prehung. A prehung door arrives hung in its frame with jamb, sill, hinges and weatherstripping. A slab is the door alone and is not ready to install until it is hung in a frame.

How long does a custom wood front door take?

About 5 weeks: 4 weeks to build in Houston, then about 1 week in delivery. Quick Ship doors arrive in about 1 week.

Are wood front doors impact rated?

No. Knockety wood doors are not impact rated. If your area requires an impact-rated door, see our fiberglass front doors: most fiberglass models are impact rated, and a design rep will confirm yours. More on impact-rated entry doors.

How do I measure for a new wood front door?

Most Knockety doors come 32 or 36 inches wide and 80 or 96 inches tall, and each door page lists its sizes. Our measuring guide shows how to measure your opening. Fit is the buyer's responsibility, so measure before you order; a design rep can check it with you by phone, photos or FaceTime.

Can I see the wood and finish before I order?

Yes. Order a wood finish sample to see the grain and color in your own light, or see a door on your house with a photo of your entry.
